What Your "Checkride" Will Be Like

Your Practical Test, commonly referred to as your Checkride, consists of two parts:

An oral exam conducted before you go flying
An in-flight test in which you demonstrate your skills in the aircraft

Oral Portion...

On the oral portion of your test, you will be required to demonstrate your aviation knowledge, including subjects like regulations, aeromedical factors, aircraft systems, meteorology, and airspace.

It is during the oral that you will be required to demonstrate your flight planning, including the performance and weight & balance under actual conditions, the effects of the weather on your flight and your navigation and flight log.

Flight Portion...

On the flight portion of the Flight Instructor Practical Test you will be expected to demonstrate that you are truly ready to be Pilot-In-Command. In addition to demonstrating your piloting proficiency with the required maneuvers, you will be expected to demonstrate good risk management—including situational awareness, collision avoidance, cockpit resource management and the appropriate use of checklists.

Is the course current?

This online course covers PTS (Practical Test Standards). A new version of this course that covers ACS (Airman Certification Standards) is currently in development and all customers with the PTS version of the course will automatically be upgraded when it's released.
Is there a particular order to follow?

Just follow the path from start to finish; it´s that easy. Of course you can skip around if you chose but we recommend staying on the lesson path.
How much time will it take to complete the course?

The Flight Instructor Practical Test Course contains approximately 6.5 hours of video.

King Schools courses are self-paced so completion time will vary from person to person.
What if I have a question? Is there a CFI available?

When can I take my FAA checkride?

You'll need to first pass your FAA Written Test and receive an endorsement from your flight instructor.
How do I access my course completion certificate?

Once you have completed all the lessons and answered all the questions in each lesson, you'll be able to print out your completion certificate. Click on the Course Complete icon when you are finished to print your certificate.
